Since eBay banned the sale of digital products in their auctions, many marketers have abandoned eBay as a source of income. Changes of terms and conditions, and ever increasing fee charges, have had a similar effect too. Still, flexible marketers are finding that, by adapting their approach, eBay still represents opportunities for making money online.
Smart sellers found that while the direct sale of digital products was no longer possible, there is a way to work around it. What they did was to put one or more digital products on a CD or DVD and physically ship it out to customers. Doing so meant that not only could they continue to sell the products that they wanted to, but also that they could sell them for more, on the basis that physical products are perceived to be of greater value than digital ones.
Taking this approach need not be a lot of hassle either, as you can use a fulfillment company to package, label and ship every CD and DVD that you sell. Basically, you provide them with a stock of raw materials and the customers details, as they come in at a later date, and they take care of the rest for a flat fee. For each disc that you sell, you could easily make a few dollars in profit.
If you want to get creative, you could add bonuses or upsells onto the disc that your customers are getting. Adding unannounced bonuses will create value and make your customer happy. You could try sending them to a website where they could buy additional products from you. Better yet, you could send them to a squeeze page where, upon completing an opt-in form, they would enter your email list.
An alternative approach to making money on eBay is through dropshipping. Instead of keeping stock or selling something that you own, doing dropshipping will allow you to sell products which belong to someone else, kind of like affiliate marketing. Having decided upon which of the many dropshipping companies to use, the rest of the process is easy to follow through. You simply list one of the dropshipper's products on eBay and, when it sells, submit an order to the dropshipper for that product, providing them with the customers details as you do so. The great thing about this business model is that it doesn't cost you any money out of your pocket. You only pay the dropshipping company's cut out of the proceeds of the sale.
Using the dropshipping method of making money on eBay, you can sell virtually anything. You'll find companies that sell small items like cell phone accessories, all the way up to large items such as pool tables. Conduct a little research before you choose your products to sell though, and try to find ones that offer both good profit margins and low competition (i.e. with not many competing eBay sellers).
